Solid Horizon aims to become a zero-carbon emission company in the future

KLANG (20 July 2021) – Solid Horizon Sdn Bhd is committed to reducing the output of carbon emissions through its main business modal and plans to become a zero-carbon emission company in the future.

According to James Yeoh, Director of Solid Horizon Sdn Bhd, the company is slowly helping the country reduce steel waste and carbon emissions through its daily operations.

“Our business operation involves recycling and repurposing steel shipping containers. For each repurposed steel container, we’re helping the country reduce waste,” he says.

Solid Horizon is a supplier and manufacturer of shipping containers. The company specializes in portable cabins, heavy duty cabins, labor quarter cabins, toilet cabins, guard houses, used containers and polyurethane cabins.

To date, Solid Horizon repurposes up to 15 shipping containers per month and with a 30 year track record, the company has repurposed approximately 12,000 shipping containers.

James explains that the reason the company is doing its part to help the country’s environment is because Solid Horizon plays an active role in the local construction industry ecosystem. Additionally, James says that its business model is Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) inclined.

ESG are three main factors when measuring a company’s sustainability and ethical impact. It is a term used in capital markets and commonly used by investors to evaluate the behavior of a corporation and as a tool to determine the company’s future financial performance.

“Every company with a business model in manufacturing, construction, agriculture and other heavy industries will at some point produce carbon emissions. We need to play a role in reducing the output of these harmful gasses and Solid Horizon is doing that each day. By repurposing shipping containers to turn them into a house or accommodation, it’s one small effort in reducing carbon emissions in the country,” he adds.

James adds that it’s not easy to be a zero-carbon emission company and they’ll need a lot of strategy, especially for a small, medium enterprise (SME).

“I do believe in reducing carbon emissions through minimal use of vehicles, minimizing wastage at construction sites, reducing paper through digitalization, reducing water consumption, reducing the use of electricity and promoting recycling in every household, but it will be a challenge for us and it’s a challenge that we will gladly embrace,” he concludes.
